![]() to this? ![]() The meadow would still be fenced off and eventually the land will be redeveloped leading to the loss of the meadow. However, its presence in the meantime would lift the value of the land and the town, providing an attractive view with the three bottle ovens at the bottom. It will provide a home for bees, birds and wildlife at the centre of the urban environment. It has the potential to attract people to Burslem, especially if we can get media interest in the project. We will raise the money for the seeds (estimated £1,500) and gather community members to plant the meadow. If necessary, we will also ask local firms for donations of topsoil. We ask that the owners
grant permission for the planting and make remedial efforts to make the
land safe for guided planting, ideally (but not necessarily) with
children being able to join in. We would like to do this before the
summer. If you would like to help to
make this a reality, please visit this
page and pledge your support. Most community action in Burslem is done on the street and a lot of people aren’t online so we will also be collecting pledges of help offline. However, if we can get 1500 people online to pledge support we – and the owners – will know that we will have a lot of community support - enough to share the workload, and to come and enjoy the meadow when it has been planted! |
Burslem Bournes Bank is a large area of wasteground on the edge of Burslem, formerly the site of factories and cinemas. At
the moment it attracts anti-social behaviour and crime, and is a
complete
eyesore for the people who live and work overlooking it. It is also
visible
to thousands of passing motorists. It creates an exceptionally bad impression of our town. We would like to plant a wildflower meadow. If you are interested in this idea ... Please pledge your support here. Some pictures of the current state of the site are available here.
